In many cases, you can refine your search using a region or group to focus your search.  For example

United States--History  or 

Latin America--History 

In many cases you can even add specific time frames such as

India--History--20th Century.

While "History" is the primary subject heading, you can narrow to specific aspects of this larger topic using some of the following terms along with the regional and time designation as noted above:

Library of Congress Call Numbers (LCCN)

Library of Congress Call Numbers are an alphanumeric code that allow for the organization of related resources within the same shelf space.  

For History, you will most commonly find materials within the letter range C to F which can be located on the 3rd floor of Webster Library.
