Finding primary sources

Search for national libraries or digital library collections from the place in which your show is based. Some examples are below. Other ideas for finding primary source information:

  • interview someone involved or who was alive at the time of the events of your show/role
  • visit the location or a similar location and observe
  • collect artifacts or pictures of artifacts in person

Works of art are a great resource for costume and set design. Library databases offer a wealth of digital art images. (Login with university ID required.) Also, check the Websites tab "Costume/Design/Theatre Tech" for additional web resources.
