Also called "Author-Date References," Harvard Citation Style can be confusing since there is no official connection to Harvard University. It's another name for the custom of using author and date in parentheses, for example (Robbins 1987) in the text to refer to full citations in bibliographies. Some faculty at Harvard were among the first to use this system in the late 1800s, and the name stuck, particularly in England.
