Challenged and banned books

About Banned Book Week

Banned Book Week celebrates freedom of speech and open access to information as well as draws attention to the harms of censorship. Since 1982, the American Library Association (ALA) Office for Intellectual Freedom compiles lists of challenged books reported and submitted by librarian and teachers within the United States. Usually Banned Book Week is celebrated the last week of September or the first week of October.

This year, Banned Book Week is held October 1-7. The theme is "Let Freedom Read!"
